The Brown Family

John Brown was born in 1803 and was married to Julia Ann/Julianne Plowdon (b. 1816). Julia Ann was enslaved at the Newtown, Maryland plantation. Purchased by Louisiana plantation owner Henry Johnson in 1838, the couple were passengers on the Katharine Jackson. Although his birth year is listed in the bill of sale as 1841, their son John Henry was on the ship with his parents and also with a sibling listed as being born in 1838. John and Julia Ann had five more children in Louisiana: Nicholas (b. 1842), William (b.1845), twins Mary and Martha (b.1853), and Elizabeth (b.1856). The couple had three grandsons from John Henry.
