The Campbell Family
Adeline Campbell was born in 1804 and was enslaved on St. Inigoes Plantation in Maryland. Her husband, Sylvester Green (b. 1819), was enslaved at Newtown Manor Plantation in Maryland. In 1838, the couple and Adeline’s four small children were sold and transported on the Katharine Jackson. Adeline and Sylvester had four children under the age of ten on board the ship: Matthew (b.1828), Jenny (b.1832), Catherine (b.1834), and Mary (b.1837). The couple had two more children, John (b. 1842) and Elizabeth (b. 1846), while enslaved in Louisiana. Living to almost 100 years old, Adeline witnessed the birth of her 21 grandchildren by the time of her death in 1901.
