The Adams Family

Adams was born in Maryland in 1807 and died after 1880 at least the age of 73 in Louisiana. Peter married Nelly Hawkins (b. 1800), who was also enslaved on the White Marsh Farm plantation in Maryland. The Adams had one son, Cornelius, born in 1822, who likely passed away, and three daughters: Henrietta (b.1825), Cecilia (b.1829), and Rutha (b.1832). The couple was sold to Henry Johnson in 1838, and both Nelly and Peter were transported to separate plantations away from their young children by 1844. Henrietta “Henny” had her first daughter, Mary Francis Ware, in 1843 at the age of 18. With her husband William Ware, Henrietta had six more children. While both of her younger siblings died before 1860, Henrietta lived to over 70 until her death between 1870 and 1878.
