Other Maryland Families

The Georgetown Memory Project has identified 214 members of the GU272 who were transported to southern Louisiana between 1838 and 1843. The project believes that the remaining 97 members of the GU272 were left behind in Maryland in a variety of circumstances.

To support ongoing research into these individuals, three PDF reports are available below. The reports list all 97 people who remained in Maryland and organize them by the Jesuit plantation on which they were living at the time of the 1838 Jesuit Slave Census.

To date, the Georgetown Memory Project has positively identified twenty-four (24) of these individuals in records created after 1840, confirming that they remained in Maryland. In the reports, these "found" individuals are identified by names printed in CAPITAL LETTERS and highlighted in blue.

Researchers and descendants are encouraged to review the reports and explore the evidence compiled for each plantation community.
