The Ford Family
Hillary Ford was born in 1816 and died between 1845 and 1851. In 1838, Hillary married Henny Butler (b. 1810). Henny already had five children from a previous relationship and had three more with Hillary: Bazile or Basil (b.1839), Rachel (b.1843), and Jackson (b.1845). Henny’s five oldest children were passengers on the Katharine Jackson. Although Hillary and Henny’s names don’t appear on the ship manifest, they were sold to Henry Johnson. However, Basil was born in 1839 in Maryland after the sale to Louisiana. Jesuits had made promises to keep families together and, although they often ignored this promise, it is possible that Henny, Hillary, and Henny’s youngest child were allowed to stay together in Maryland. Henny died at age 56 in 1866 with 20 grandchildren.
