The Harrison Family
Sally Harrison was born in 1773 and was enslaved on the White Marsh Farm in Maryland. She had three children who each married and had children of their own.
Her eldest son, Ned (b.1793), and his wife Rachel (b.1795) had five children together: Nancy (b.1816), Simon (b.1820), Anderson (b.1822), Louisa (b.1824), and Ned (b.1828). Nancy, her husband John Queen, and their three-year-old son Patrick were sold together in 1838. Louisa’s husband Robert Mahoney was also sold to Jesse Batey and transported on the Uncas. Sally’s second son, William “Billy” (b.1798), and his wife Maria had William Jr. in 1822. Sally’s only daughter, Nelly (b.1800), gave birth to her son John in 1833.
In 1838, Sally was sold to Henry Johnson at the age of 65. Jesse Batey purchased Ned and his family in 1838. Ned, Rachel, and their children were transported to Louisiana aboard the Uncas. The family was further separated when Nelly, Billy, and their families were sold to Henry Johnson and transported to Louisiana on the Katharine Jackson.
Sally lived at least to the age of 69, dying after 1842. Nelly, Ned, and Billy gave Sally seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren across two Louisiana plantations.
