The Mahoney Family

Louisa Mahoney was born in 1813 at St. Inigoes plantation in Maryland, where she was enslaved her entire life. Louisa and her husband, Alex Mason (b.1815-20), had six children together: Mary Ann (b.1849), Charity (b.1851), Thomas (b.1853), Daniel (b.1853), Josephine (b.1857), and Robert (b.1859).

Although Louisa and Alex had been sold to Henry Johnson in 1838, the couple remained in Maryland where they raised their children. While Alex passed away between ages 40 and 45, Louisa lived to be 96 years old.

By the time of her death in 1909, Louisa welcomed almost thirty grandchildren.
