Sally's Family
Sally was born around 1788 and was enslaved at White Marsh Farm plantation. Sally had four children with her husband Aaron Diggs: William (b.1817), Mary Ann (b.1820), Robert (b.1826), -- who may have been mentally impaired -- and Henry (b.1830).
In 1838, Mary Ann was sold to Jesse Batey while Sally and the rest of her children were sold to Henry Johnson. While Mary Ann was a passenger on the Katharine Jackson, Sally and her other children are not listed on any of the ship passenger lists. Likely, Sally remained at White Marsh Farm plantation with all except one child.
In 1840, Mary Ann married William Hill (b.1809) and had five children together: Sarah (b.1841), Elizabeth “Betsey” (b.1847), Joseph (b.1850), Pope (b.1853), and Mary (b.1863). Mary Ann lived out the rest of her life in Louisiana, while her parents and siblings remained in Maryland.
