The Harris Family

George Harris was born around 1773 and was enslaved on St. Thomas Manor plantation in Maryland. George and his wife Catherine “Kitty” (b.1788) had four children together: Harriet (b.1825), Sarah (b.1828), Judith (b.1830), and Oswald (1835). The entire Harris family was purchased by Jesse Batey and transported on the Katharine Jackson in 1838. George, Harriet, Judith, and Oswald all died that same year and within a month of their journey to Louisiana. Kitty lived to meet at least three of her five grandchildren from her only surviving child, Sarah, and passed away after 1859.
