The Ware Family

William Ware was born in 1820 and was enslaved on the St. Thomas Manor plantation in Maryland. William’s wife, Henrietta Adams (b.1825), was enslaved on the White Marsh Farm plantation. William and Henrietta, occasionally “Henny” or “Winny,” were both sold to Henry Johnson and were passengers on the Katharine Jackson. While enslaved in Louisiana, the couple had seven children: Mary Francis (b.1843), Peter (b.1846), Celia (b.1848), Nellie (b.1854), Augustus (b.1854), William (b.1860), and James Madison (b.1863). William died on April 9, 1871 and Henrietta died on February 27, 1896. Both are buried in Smoke Bend, Louisiana.
